SEAS Pastoral Message Solemnity of St. Joseph

Mar 19, 2020

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph.  We celebrate Joseph as a man who listened to the voice of God and was obedient to that voice.  At a time of confusion St. Joseph believed the message of St. Gabriel and took Mary into his home.  Mary and Joseph both passed their faith to Jesus and helped to form his personality through their love.  He is an example Father.

One of the titles of St. Joseph is protector of the Church.  When I hear this title, I think of Joseph taking Mary and Jesus to Egypt after King Herod had threatened the life of Jesus.  St. Joseph who protected Jesus with great love continues to protect each of us, our families, our diocese, our church and our world.  May we pray to St. Joseph for his protecting in this challenging time.

Pope Francis will pray the Luminous Mysteries today at 11 AM CST and has asked us to join in praying these mysteries today, the Solemnity of St. Joseph.

I will end my meditation today with a Spiritual Communion Prayer.

My Jesus,
I believe that you are present
In the Most Holy Sacrament
I love you above all things,
And I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
Receive you sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
And unite myself wholly to You,
Never permit me to be
Separated from You.
