KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Knights of Columbus Council 9260 is excited to announce the 2026/2027 Knights of Columbus Essay Contest. The contest is open to all Catholic Students from public, private or parochial schools in grades 8-12. One winning essay from each grade level will advance to the next level of competition. 

Winners will be awarded $200 each, with additional awards possible for winners at State and National levels. 

2026/2027 Essay Topic:

“The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”

Explain what this quote from former U.S. President and Knights of Columbus member

John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Inaugural address means and its importance for the flourishing of a nation.

Rules and Regulations:

• Each essay must reflect the assigned theme and must be the student’s original work. 
• No AI generated essay should be allowed.
• Each Essay must be typed and contain between 500-750 words.
• Each Essay must be double spaced, using 12- point font and Times New Roman font.
• The student’s name should only appear on the official entry form and not in the essay.

Deadline for Students to submit essays to their Councils: November 5, 2026
